<p></div>
<div>
With winter upon us here in Edmonton, and well pretty much all across Canada I have been making this soup in the Instant Pot. It is not only great to warm me up but also to help increase my iron intake. This soup also becomes even healthier as my Mom suggests adding in a quarter cup of soaked black beans to increase protein and fibre.&nbsp;</div>
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
<div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">3-4 beef bones (fresh or frozen)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">1/2 onion (chopped)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">1 can of whole tomatoes</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">2 carrots (sliced)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">1/4 cup black beans (soaked in water overnight)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">1/2 tsp salt</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">Water (enough to fill half way up pot)</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
*I am using a 6 quart instant pot*</p>
<p><span id="more-723"></span></div>
<h3>
Directions</h3>
</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Turn on the Instant Pot function to &#8220;Saute&#8221; mode. Saute chopped onions, beef bones and carrots for 3-4 minutes.<br /><a href="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-725" alt="carrots, beef bones, onions sauteing in the instant pot" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558-1024x683.jpg" title="" width="640" srcset="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129114856_IMG_2558.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></li>
<li>Turn off &#8220;Saute&#8221; mode. Add in the can of whole tomatoes and using a wooden spoon gently press down some of the whole tomatoes.<br /><a href="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-726" alt="adding in the canned whole tomatoes to the instant pot for instant pot beef bone soup" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559-1024x683.jpg" title="" width="640" srcset="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115008_IMG_2559.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></li>
<li>Add in the soaked overnight black beans. You can choose to add the water from the beans if you want.<br /><a href="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-727" alt="adding in soaked black beans to the instant pot soup" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561-1024x683.jpg" title="" width="640" srcset="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/20171129115127_IMG_2561.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></li>
<li>Add in 1/2 tsp of salt. Then add in enough water to reach about halfway up the Instant Pot; ensure that you cover all the bones.<br /><a href="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-728" alt="water until it covers the bones and instant pot is halfway full" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202-1024x683.jpeg" title="" width="640" srcset="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0124529900596858202.jpeg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></li>
<li>Turn on the &#8220;soup&#8221; function. Close the lid of the Instant Pot. Once the soup is done the Instant Pot will beep to indicate that it is done cooking.<br /><a href="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-729" alt="the finished beef bone tomato instant pot soup" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424-1024x683.jpeg" title="" width="640" srcset="https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https://www.beyondumami.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/2812-2017-0139529975524029424.jpeg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></li>
</ol>
<p>I am seriously impressed by how fast this soup can be made in the Instant Pot. Most definitely faster than making it over the stove top and having to watch it. With this soup you can serve it as is before a meal. Otherwise to make dinner super easy,&nbsp; I also cook up some soba noodles to bulk up the soup and have it as a meal.</p>
